Yellowstone National Park Cow Moose Behavioral Habits and Habitat
Yellowstone National Park Cow Moose like to be on there own, till mating season. Baby moose is in the womb for nine months, that varies between species and region. Most moose only breed once a year, even thought they are Polyestrous. Calf moose are born in May – June with a strong bond to mom, weighting twenty five to thirty five pounds. Moose calves are the only mammal in the wild that are born with their eyes open. Baby moose are born ready to go. Survival is tough when wolves, bears and coyotes would like you for dinner, literally.
Cow Moose Habitat in Yellowstone National Park
Cow moose reach an approximate weight of fifteen hundred pounds, making them the largest living member of the deer family. Moose are more active at dusk and down.
Cow moose thrive near water, with swamps, meadows and forests near by. Moose’s diet consists of aquatic plants, twigs, grasses and leaves, this makes the members of the herbivore family.
Yellowstone National Park Cow Moose are very territorial and will protect their calf with force. I have encountered moose all throughout the Great Yellowstone Ecosystem including lots of sights and encounters in the Grand Teton National Park. Colorado has good population at Grand Lake and on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. The National Forest System through out the northern rocky mountain, I have even managed to get charged a few time. Be aware of your surroundings when on the trail, if you see a moose give it lots of room and enjoy Yellowstone National Park.
