History of Yellowstone Park and Wildlife

Yellowstone became a National Park in spring of 1872.  It took until into the 1900’s to stop most of the illegal hunting and expand Yellowstone’s wildlife population.  As I recall reading in a book long ago that Yellowstone Park was not an island, but part of a much larger ecosystem. Grand Teton National Park is part of this ecosystem encompassing around four eighty five square miles.  With the Wind River Range and Wilderness Area along it’s east boundary. Back up in Yellowstone Park through the northeast entrance is Cook City and Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness.  The Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness encompasses 944,000 acres. Contains  High Mountain Lakes, count of 948 with 318 having fish and the rest barren.
