Grizzly Bear Conservation and Recovery
As the park was created in 1872 the grizzly bear was made protected with in the park boundary’s. That move didn’t do much to slow the decline. In the early seventies there were only 136 grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Craighead brothers started a ten year study on grizzly bears and their habitat within Yellowstone National Park. This study was instrumental in adding the grizzlies to the Endangered Species Act in 1975. Grizzlies have recovered to 1036 bears within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem with habitat expansion of 50%.
Grizzly Bear Behavioral Habits and Habitat
Grizzly Bears are loners and only get to together to procreate. Once up from hibernating grizzlies feed on plants, berries, nuts, small animals and large animals.
