Description
Chartreuse Grizzly Gold Digger Streamer | Trout & Bass Fly Maybe A Pike or Two
Some flies earn a spot in the box for a season. The Sugar Momma earns it for good. This chartreuse grizzly marabou streamer was built for brown trout, and browns eat it in every month of the year: cold-water slow strips in January, swung through runs in June, ripped past undercut banks in October when the big ones turn mean. Then it crossed over. Bass hammer it just as hard, which makes it one of the few streamers that pulls equal weight on a trout river and a warmwater pond.
The magic is in the movement. Ewing grizzly marabou breathes with the slightest twitch, the barred grizzly pattern reads like baitfish scales, and the chartreuse cuts through stained water when other colors disappear. A see-through cluster of Nature’s Spirit Predator Dub builds a body with bulk and translucency at the same time, so the fly pushes water without looking like a clump. Golden pheasant and wood duck–dyed mallard flank add natural barring and a flash of gold, and a chartreuse grizzly chickabou collar finishes it with constant pulse even on the pause.
Two ways to fish it: The marabou can be tied bent in toward each other or splayed outward. Tied in tight, you get a slimmer profile that cuts through current and gets down. Splayed, the fly breathes wide and pushes more water, which shines in slow pools, stillwater, and when you want a fish to feel it coming. Ask about either style when you order.
Where it shines:
- Brown trout, all year, especially low light and off-color water
- Rainbow and cutthroat on the swing or strip
- Largemouth and smallmouth bass along weed edges, docks, and rocky points
How to fish it: Swing it across and down, strip it erratically off the bank, or dead-drift and twitch it through deep seams. Vary your retrieve until the fish tell you what they want. Pair it with a sink-tip in faster water to keep it in the zone.
