Chocolate Mint Girdle Bug — Classic Montana Stonefly Nymph
Ninety years on the water and it still catches fish like it’s new. The Girdle Bug was born on Montana’s Big Hole River in the 1930s and has been fooling big trout, steelhead, and bass ever since. Tied heavy with a lead-wrapped shank, a solid chenille body, and rubber legs splayed off every side, this fly doesn’t have a “wrong” way to drift — it looks alive from every angle a fish sees it. That’s not an accident. It’s the same principle Charlie Brooks later built his career on: tie it in the round, and it fools fish no matter how the current tumbles it.
Fish it as your anchor fly in a two-fly nymph rig, bounce it through deep pocket water, or swing it through a run when nothing else is moving fish. Available in classic black and coffee brown, with white or yellow rubber legs.
