Description
Foam-Backed Attractor Dry | Salmonfly/Hopper Style Pattern
Big water needs a big, ugly, impossible-to-miss dry fly — and Monster of Purple was built to be seen from across the run. Tied in the classic salmonfly/hopper silhouette, this pattern trades the usual orange-and-black for a loud purple profile that trout can’t ignore, especially on pressured Rocky Mountain water where they’ve seen every standard stonefly pattern in the box.
The two-sided foam top — black on the dorsal side, purple on the underside — throws a strong, high-floating silhouette while giving fish a natural two-tone read from below. The body is built from Natures Spirit Purple Monster Bush Fur, dense enough to push a real footprint on the water and durable enough to survive fish after fish without losing shape. Purple and holographic peacock sili legs kick and pulse with every twitch or skate, adding movement that a static foam body can’t fake on its own. The Natures Spirit Predator Dub wing finishes it off with just enough translucency and bulk to complete the profile without dragging the fly down.
This is not a delicate presentation fly. It’s a foam-loaded workhorse built to ride high through pocket water, bounce off banks, and get eaten by fish that want a mouthful. Because it doesn’t sink well, it stays exactly where you want it — riding the surface, drawing eyes, and holding up through a full day of fast water and aggressive takes.
Best for: Salmonfly and golden stone hatches, hopper season, big attractor dry-dropper rigs, and any water where trout need a reason to come up and commit.
