Description
Purple Haze Hopper Feel the Rush
This isn’t your average foam hopper. Black foam on top gives fish the classic hopper silhouette they key on from below, while the purple underside creates a totally different look on the take — and on those bright bluebird days, that contrast is the difference between a refusal and a hookup.
The body is where this fly earns its keep. Semperfli Mottled Golden Olive Bug Yarn gives it a buggy, natural profile, but we twisted in Semperfli Purple Gel Core Mico Fritz right alongside it for a subtle flash that moves in the water without screaming “fake.” It’s built to look alive, not just look like a hopper.
Tied on Semperfli Classic 6/0 red thread for a clean, durable build that’ll hold up through a full day of fish after fish.
Fish it on the banks during hopper season, skate it through riffles, or drop it as the top fly in a hopper-dropper rig. Whether you’re working a Montana spring creek or a backcountry freestone, this pattern gives trout something they haven’t seen yet.
Best fished: Late summer through early fall, windy days along grassy banks
Rig it: Solo, or as your hopper-dropper ancho

| Hook | Partridge K125T, sizes #10–#16 |
| Thread | Semperfli Classic 6/0, Red |

Tying Notes:
- Twist the Bug Yarn and Mico Fritz together before wrapping the body — this is what gives you the buggy look with flash woven through it, not just flash on top.
- Tie in silicone legs in a V-splay on each side, ahead of the wing/foam shellback, for the best kick on the retrieve.
- Trim foam edges tight to the body for a cleaner hopper silhouette on smaller sizes (#14–#16); leave a bit more flare on #10–#12 for bulkier water.
- Whip finish behind the head and coat with head cement for durability through a full day of fish.
