Bright Purple Chickabou Body Marabou Patch – Ewing Hackle
Tired of dull, lifeless black marabou that clumps, fouls, and dies the moment it hits the water? Black is officially canceled.
Say hello to the Bright Purple Chickabou Body Marabou Patch from Ewing Hackle — the premium fly tying material that makes purple the new black for serious fly tyers.
This high-quality chickabou marabou patch features long, ultra-webby, super-breathy fibers that pulse and throb with irresistible life-like action. One slow strip and your Woolly Bugger, streamer, or leech transforms into a seductive underwater disco that trout, bass, steelhead, and even saltwater species can’t resist.
Perfect for:
- Wrapping buggy bodies on Woolly Buggers and egg-sucking leeches
- Adding flowing collars and throats
- Creating lively tails and wings
- Building full streamer patterns that demand attention
Unlike cheap craft-store marabou that acts like wet toilet paper, Ewing Hackle’s chickabou body patches are soft, supple, and engineered for maximum movement with minimal bulk. The fibers breathe naturally, resist fouling, and give your flies that expensive, slightly dangerous look that turns fish on.
Whether you’re tying classic trout buggers, steelhead patterns, or big predatory streamers, this vibrant bright purple marabou delivers the edge you’ve been looking for. It’s marabou that went to finishing school — and came back with serious attitude.
Stop blending in with the crowd of boring black tiers. Grab the Bright Purple Chickabou Body Marabou Patch today and make the fish question their life choices.

Bright Purple is the steelhead color that never goes out of style. It’s dark enough to make a silhouette and bright enough to show color in clear water. Steelhead, salmon, and even snook at night seem to love it.
Bright Purple Ewing Chickabou gives you vivid purple fibers for leech tails, spey collars and night-fly accents. If you fish anadromous fish and don’t carry purple, you’re doing it wrong.
Steelhead, salmon, rainbows, Dolly Varden, snook and tarpon.
Recipe 1: Bright Purple Chickabou Egg-Sucking Leech
- Hook: 3XL streamer, #2–#6
- Thread: Black 6/0
- Tail: Bright Purple Ewing Chickabou, full plume, plus 2 strands purple flash
- Body: Purple chenille, with a purple saddle palmered
- Head (“egg”): Fluorescent pink or orange chenille, 3–4 wraps
Tying: A classic Alaska pattern. Tie the purple body short of the eye, then wrap a fat chenille egg in front. The egg is the hot spot.
How to fish: In Alaska and the Great Lakes, swing or strip it behind spawning salmon. Rainbows, Dolly Varden and steelhead eat eggs and leeches there. The combination is deadly. Swing it slowly, with a strip at the end.
Recipe 2: Bright Purple Chickabou Snook Night Fly
- Hook: Saltwater 1/0
- Thread: Black 6/0
- Tail: Black saddles, with Bright Purple Ewing Chickabou on top
- Flash: Purple and black Flashabou
- Body: Black EP fiber, trimmed slim
- Collar: Bright Purple chickabou, 2 turns
Tying: Night snook flies are all about silhouette. Black and purple together make a strong outline against dock lights.
How to fish: Around dock lights at night, snook hold on the shadow line. Cast past the light and swing the fly through it with slow strips. Snook eat at the edge where the light meets the dark.
