Description
Yellow Chartreuse Ewing Chickabou Marabou Body Patch
Yellow Chartreuse leans yellow where Green Chartreuse leans green. It’s a warm, glowing color that predators can see from a long way off, especially in tannic or stained water. Muskie anglers swear by it. So do the guides who chase golden dorado in South America.
Yellow Chartreuse Ewing Chickabou gives you bright yellow-green fibers for muskie and pike flies, big-river streamers and hot-spot accents.
Muskie, pike, golden dorado, peacock bass, largemouth and jack crevalle.
Recipe 1: Yellow Chartreuse Chickabou Muskie Fly
- Hook: Two 4/0–5/0 saltwater hooks, articulated with 60-lb wire
- Thread: Chartreuse 210-denier
- Rear section: Yellow bucktail with Yellow Chartreuse Ewing Chickabou on top, plus gold and pearl flash
- Front section: Yellow Chartreuse chickabou, 3–4 plumes wrapped as a full collar
- Head: Yellow Semperfli Predator fiber or bucktail, trimmed into a wide head, with large 3D eyes
Tying: Muskie flies need bulk without weight so you can cast them. Chickabou adds size and movement and sheds water on the backcast better than you’d expect.
How to fish: In stained water from summer into fall, strip it back with long, steady pulls and occasional pauses. Muskie often follow to the boat. Finish every cast with a wide figure-eight at the boat, and keep it moving.
Recipe 2: Yellow Chartreuse Chickabou Golden Dorado Streamer
- Hook: Strong saltwater 3/0–4/0, with a 40-lb wire bite tippet
- Thread: Black 210-denier
- Tail: Yellow Chartreuse Ewing Chickabou, two plumes, with black saddles on each side
- Flash: Gold Flashabou
- Body: Yellow and black Semperfli Predator fiber, layered
- Collar: Yellow Chartreuse chickabou, 2 turns, then black chickabou, 1 turn
- Head: Black EP fiber, large eyes
Tying: Yellow and black is a classic golden dorado combo. Keep the head strong — dorado have teeth and crushing jaws.
How to fish: On big South American rivers, dorado ambush baitfish along current seams, drop-offs and rock edges. Cast tight to structure, sink it with a heavy sink-tip, and strip it fast. Dorado hit hard and jump. Use a wire bite tippet.
