Reason these mallard spey feathers are different

Most mallard flank gets sold by the fistful. Half of it is too short to wing a size 8 and the other half has broken tips. Our Mallard Spey packs are 12 jumbo feathers, selected for steelhead and salmon tiers who need long fibers that tie in flat, wrap clean and breathe in the current.

What to tie with them

Use them as tented wings on classic spey and Dee flies, as wrapped collars on Intruders and Skagit swing flies, as throats on low-water patterns, and as soft-hackle collars on big trout spey flies. The barring gives you life and segmentation without adding bulk, so the fly sinks and swings the way it should.

Picking a color

Black, Fluorescent Purple and Royal Blue for low light and dark water. Fluorescent Chartreuse, Hot Pink and Hot Orange for off-color water and fresh fish. Natural, Heron Grey and Wood Duck for the classics and clear-water summer runs. Olive, Green, Kingfisher Blue and Yellow fill in the rest of the box.
